If there is a p0302, p0303, p0300 and dealership is more likely to replace all ignition coils and spark plugs then let their tech spend an hour or so figuring out what specific part is causing the problem.

Most of that work is warranty work and generally a dealer doesnt want a technician to diagnose past a code scan unless it has the possibility to mean a full engine swap. How come the car dealership charges so much more for their service than the local mechanic down the street?ĭealers have allot more overhead and are very focused on specific makes. it drove well, handling was ok and it had a better ride quality than a BMW of equivalent size, at the time

Other than that and poor quality material used to cover the seats (leather often ISNT REAL leather but a synthetic that doesnt seen to last like proper leather does, and cloth on the bolsters that wont see 100k miles if you are at the shorter end of the driver spectrum), poor injectors on diesel models (they wont accept biodiesel made from recycled cooking oil) and glow plugs that seize in, it was overall, pretty good.Īs a rule, the car was reliable (never failed to start EVER) geve reasonable fuel economy (on diesel) the manual transmission hadnt the best shift going but was far better in the snow uphills than the previous automatic one id owned. they also like to code EVERYTHING they possibly can to the car, so you have to go to someone with STAR for repairs to have the parts coded to the car to make them work, and prevent recycling of decent quality used parts as some arent recodeable!!!! whatever was wrong with things being ‘plug and play’ (like adding a CD changer when we got the car was a NIGHTMARE as the ECU had to be programmed to tell the radio that there was now a CD player attached, which never happened in the Ford we also had at the time!!)

the car had about 70k miles on it at the time. Mercedes wouldnt repair it because despite the ‘rust’ warranty, the car wasnt dealer serviced and hadnt caused holes in the body/ they also blamed stonechips being untreated as the cause of the rust. ours was garaged when not in use, saw few road resurface areas, yet almost every panel had rust on it by 8 years old, often hidden behind door mouldings etc. Ones from about 1996 to 2008 (approx) rust like hell. the problem is they have done their best to keep as much of the car as legally possible, outside the scope of regular scantools, so diagnosing faults that arent emissions related is VERY difficult unless you have access to Mercedes’ own scan tool, STAR. What has been your experience like in owning a Mercedes?Īs someone who does their own repairs, the parts are generally reasonably priced here (im in the trade so get the parts at trade) compared to other brands.
